New School Year.... New Me

The school year has started again and I'm trying something new. Last year was all about comfort and to be honest I looked like a hobo most of the time.

That may also have had something to do with my lack of appeal (men wise).

This year I have challenged myself to not wear sweat pants AT ALL (well other then when I'm alone in my room).

I am going to compare this year from last year and see if my non-sweat-pant-wearing pays off!

I would also like to give a shout out to Briar and Aman who are reading this blog right now.
Thanks boys <3

Exams Trends to Watch Out For

Here we are, exam time, that time of the year when students sit down and try and learn all the crazy and outrageous concepts that have been thrown at them all semester. Bags around the eyes, coffee in hand, you can tell it’s the stay up late, study and roll out of bed time of the year.
Kids around residence have been sporting sweat pants and t-shirts. I have spotted two common trends. The first is for women, the old fashion “pho pas” socks and sandals have now become a new fashion statement. Well, I could be bias considering I have been doing this for years and just hoping this “trend” will catch on. So, since I have seen a few people doing this, it makes me really happy.  Speaking of which I think its about time for me to take out my summer Berks and put away my winter ones. Yes, I wear Birkenstocks in the winter, but again I wear them with socks! No need for boots when you have socks to keep your feet warm. A tip though, for people that might actually do this; when going on long walks in the winter, make sure that you choose your socks well! That means absolutely NO HOLES!

But, back to summer, check out http://www.birkenstock.ca!

The other trend I have seen is among the young men on campus. The amount of guys I have seen with crazy facial hair is exploding. This could be because of the laziness during exams. The weird part is… I don’t even mind it. A guy with a little bit of scruff is actually quite sexy in my opinion. Its only when you see guys with un-trimmed, un-groomed or explosive facial hair that it becomes really wrong. So to all the young hot gentlemen, keep the scruff coming, but take care of it please!

Well good luck in exam time, to all you students out there!
And check me out on Twitter @DanielleLate. I’m trying to get into twitter… again…

But anyway, cheers for now grasshoppers!

Coffee Time

Today I found a cute coffee shop called MILK. There café was not the usual set up. It had a garage door near the entrance and a little sitting area. At the back there was a little stage with chairs, I’m assuming for coffee houses or local live music at night. There was a bar on the far wall. They served different coffees and some pastries like bagels, pies and muffins. The service was good and the people in the café seemed pretty hipster and chill. The lounge can be found at 68 University Ave West, Windsor.

Pictures for the Week!

This picture I found on my friends Tumbler and I really wanted to share it. I love the glasses and well, I love every other part of this picture too. If you want to see more from her blog it's http://gennab98.tumblr.com/. It's awesome check it out!

I found this garbage can a little ways off campus. I was on the bus, on my was to the store. I couldn't help get off the bus and get a picture to show it to you. I like the build up of graffiti on the orange background.

This is my friend Rob, I caught him today as he was walking in the door.  He is wearing a plaid button up shirt with a dark green pull over sweater. This look is both sharp and laid back.
Looking good!

Hand it Down!

Family hand-me-downs can be seen as old junk that your brother or sister doesn’t want anymore. Sometimes, though, you luck out and receive something you can work with or something of great value. Some great hand-me-downs I have seen around campus include; rings, a necklace, a jacket, and a pair of moccasins style shoes. Matthew John, a science student in university, has his own hand-me-down and a story to go with it. “It’s my pride and joy” John said, referring to what once was his grandfather’s hat. The Lions hat was given to John for his sixth birthday. He says it was the best gift ever and it means so much to him that it was from his grandfather. The hat was a little too big then, but he eventually grew into it, then right back out. “Even though the hat is a little small I still wear it because it means a lot to me.” John takes good care of  it and tries to keep it as clean as possible, in order to preserve it for years to come.

As far as the rest of John’s style, he says he likes to look good but keep it simple. “If I like it and look good I buy it, it’s that simple. I don’t need to have the latest fashion to look good.” He tries not to fall for all the name brands, cheap is not always worse. Left, he is sporting khaki shorts, a no name cheap v-neck shirt and his Lions hat.

Backpacks

This week I have noticed a number of people with JanSport SUPERBREAK backpacks. The backpacks come in many different bright colours and styles. They have two compartments and are very light weight. Check out these retro packs at: www.jansport.com

Take a look at some retro themed advertisements from JanSport for 2011 and 2009.
In the 2009 video, the bus says it all. Also the colours and imagry also scream 80's. In the 2011 video, if you don't notice the style and fashion then go back and watch it again. Everything is "new age" vintage, pay close attention to the glasses and sun glasses.
